Professor Bennett was the Director of the Intensive Care Unit, St George's Hospital for more than 25 years and is a member of the editorial board of Intensive Care Medicine and Critical Care. One of his main research interests has been the application of less invasive monitoring technologies to optimise cardiovascular physiology and thereby improve outcomes in critically ill patients. He was one of the (TA1) investigators using LiDCO's technology in the recently presented St George's study entitled: 'Early goal directed therapy reduces morbidity and length of hospital stay following high risk surgery.' Background to the recently published clinical trial: Better than standard care - (EGDT) improves outcome in high risk surgery patients: The results of a major trial at St George's Hospital, London using LiDCO's minimally invasive monitoring technology were presented during the 25th International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine in Brussels (21st to 25th March). The results have revealed the following: a) Savings in the cost of treating patients amounting to an average of £4,000 per patient.
