BayWa AG takes over Schradenbiogas through its subsidiary BayWa r.e
Pending approval by the German Federal Cartel Office, BayWa r.e GmbH is
poised to take over a 94.5-percent share in Schradenbiogas GmbH & Co. KG
based in Gröden, Brandenburg, from Hideal Partners at a purchase price of
around EUR 6 million, with retrospective effect as per 1 January 2010.
BayWa r.e is a wholly owned subsidiary of Munich-based BayWa AG. This
purchase is of strategic relevance for BayWa as it marks the entry into the
recovery of energy from organic waste to produce electricity based on
biogas. BayWa views this as another measure which will considerably
strengthen its renewable energies business.
Schradenbiogas GmbH & Co. KG is a leading company in the biogas sector and
operates biogas plants in Brandenburg and Saxony which produce an
electrical power output totalling around 3.6 megawatts. The three
Schradenbiogas plants process up to 100,000 tons of loose and packaged
organic waste a year and the same amount of liquid manure. The process
applied in the plants mixes liquid and solid organic waste and processes
them to produce electricity and fertiliser for use in agriculture, thereby
achieving an energy recovery of 100 percent. The company has 50 employees
and generated sales of around EUR 5 million in the financial year ended.
There are plans for Schradenbiogas GmbH & Co. KG to expand its energy
recovery line with organic waste by developing and operating additional
plants.
