           OFT refers proposed acquisition of Vernons Football Pools

                           to Competition Commission


Sportech PLC (the "Company"), the UK's leading football gaming business, has
been informed by the Office of Fair Trading ("OFT") that it has decided to refer
the Company's proposed acquisition of the Vernons football pools business to the
Competition Commission.

The Company is disappointed that the OFT has reached this conclusion and will
make a further announcement once it has considered what action it should take in
light of the decision.
